What We Delivered
Community Support & Impact
The Foundation for Appalachian Kentucky is a community foundation…but also not. Yes, part of the Foundation is structured similarly. But they also offer so much more in regards to community support and regional impact strategy.
Problem
Strength in Network
A challenge with all clients is to align audience perception with strategic goals. Since the Foundation’s network was so broad, P&P Creative challenged the team to specify exactly who they were talking to for each service they offered.
Inspiration
Standing Out & Growing Up
A tree in the middle of a grove does not stand out. The Foundation’s old logo, like the dozens we researched, was a tree. If they were going to be perceived differently, we could not continue using the same mark that is traditionally aligned with community foundations. The colors were also deeply ingrained in all they did, so we did want to steer completely away from them. They just needed to grow up a bit.
Strategy & TActics
Visual Identity
We decided to lean into the fact that the Foundation ultimately serves as a connector. One of their greatest values is their network. We wanted to create an organic shape to represent them that also tied in their support of communities.
Messaging
We researched the audiences they identified that they were targeting. We also challenged the Foundation to explain how exactly they were different from traditional community foundations. Then, we chose to organize their messaging across three primary strategies that represented all programs, funds, services and goals.
“We came to P&P Creative to have them update our site. During this process, we decided to expand our partnership to also create our brand identity and messaging. They over-delivered, helping us think more strategically and intentionally about how we are connecting with our partners through our brand.”

Brand launch
After partnering with us for over a year, the Foundation was excited to share their new brand with the world. We created a solid brand launch plan so they could confidently and strategically share their new visual identity, key messages and website to their audiences. The two-week strategy included impact stories and new messaging as star players. P&P also crafted an explanation of their new brand in both blog and email form so their long-time partners would understand the change. In addition to captioning, we provided branded social media graphics to support the content across all platforms and designed templates to supplement their calendar longterm.
